We are so excited to announce that Jamie Page is our FIT Friend this month! Jamie has been through some trial and error trying to figure out how to make it work. Jamie knew that she needed to work on herself and creating a healthy lifestyle and that included figuring out how to get her workouts in.
Her story started with 5 am workouts because she thought that was the only time she could squeeze it in. After trying that and not being able to find consistency or happiness she went back to the drawing board.
During our last challenge, the Rock Your Body challenge, we really pushed members to dig deep and figure out what works in their life, not what they think they should be doing, or what it working for someone else.
Jamie did just that during this challenge she didn’t focus on weight loss she focused on her lifestyle. She took it one day at a time, failing forward, learning by 1 practicing one habit at a time, giving herself some grace and space along the way and she is now crushing it!
It doesn’t have to be perfect (it’s never going to be perfect), practice makes you better. Strive for 1% better everyday and you are winning.
Tell us about yourself. What does a “typical” week look like for Jamie?
I spend my week with 5 and 6 year olds teaching kindergarten. In the evenings, I am running kids around to sports activities. I have 3 kids (Brayden, 12; Clara, 9; Lincoln, 6) and all are involved in sports. Brayden plays basketball year round, football and baseball. Clara plays softball, volleyball, and basketball. Lincoln wrestles, plays baseball, basketball, and football. Sometimes I have free moments and I like to fill these with a book and a cup of coffee. I am so busy most weekends that I judge my weekends by how many (if any at all) cups of coffee I got to drink out of a regular cup (as opposed to a to go mug!).
How has joining FIT changed or influenced your daily routine and lifestyle?
As you can tell from my answer above, my life is stressful and very busy. I have always squeezed working out into my weekly routine by getting up very early, but have not been great about adjusting my sleep time. As a result, I learned to live with a constant tiredness but never gave it much thought. Since joining FIT and participating in the different health challenges, I have started to look at my health much differently. Instead of focusing only on exercise, I’ve starting looking at all areas that affect my health. I’ve stopped working 10 hour days, stopped taking work home with me every night, and started working out in the afternoon. I feel much more energetic with more sleep and working out after work has given me some down time to let the stress of the day go before heading home to my family. I know they appreciate this too!
What advice would you give someone who is “on the fence” about joining a new gym?
Stop waiting! You deserve to put yourself first. What’s more, your loved ones deserve you to put yourself first! They deserve the best part of you and in order for them to get that, you have to find that part of you. A gym like FIT can help because the program focuses on your overall health, not just numbers on a scale.
Here’s what the FIT Coaches had to say about Jamie.
She is making lifestyle choices right now in order to be a happier healthier person overall and I think this would really give her the encouragement to stick to it! Despite working 12-14 hour days, she still gets her workout in at 5:05 am or 4:20pm. – Nicole
I feel like this last challenge really sparked something inside her and she is getting things figured out. She is giving herself some grace and space and finding a healthy balance between work, family and her dedicating time to keeping herself healthy. I saw the pride and excitement that she had in herself at her final assessment and it wasn’t because she lost weight or inches it was because of this mind-shift and that was pretty cool to see. – Cathy
She’s been missed at 5:05, but was psyched to hear that she found the 4:20 class to work better with her lifestyle! She’s been killing it!
